Have been using this for about 3 months... Now there is a big grinding noise coming out of the printer and all it will do is JAM... I can not get it to print at all... every time I clear it just happens again... If anyone can offer any help, This would be appreciated very much...

The good: none, its just a normal printer.. that after 3 months does not work...

The bad: all of the above

While the functions may have been worthwhile, the printer seems to suffer a manufacturing flaw. The loud noise and paper jam is due to the gear train powering the fuser section not fully meshing. This is verified by opening the rear paper path door and flipping down the two green levers (one each side). This relieves the fuser pressure a bit. Leave the door open and levers down, power cycle the printer and it will go through its test cycle. It should spin up without the ratcheting noise. I took mine apart to find the problem and I could not find any slop room to get the gears to mesh any better.

The good: USB, network and duplex printing. It looks pretty. Nice form factor and generous paper tray.

The bad: Poor internal design or manufacturing defects.

The good:
  • Lightning-fast text speed
  • Excellent text print quality
  • Compact footprint
  • Built-in duplexing
  • Network ready with straightforward set-up
  • Comprehensive driver settings
The bad:
  • Expensive
  • Mediocre graphics print quality
The bottomline:

Home offices and small businesses should take a serious look at the Samsung ML-2851ND's mono laser because of its excellent print speed, text print quality, auto-duplexer, and networking features. It's a little more expensive than the competition, but its chart-topping test results speak for themselves.
