Sanyo multimedia projector PLC-XW20

Setting up projectors can be stressful. Setting up the Sanyo PLC-XW20 is as simple as plugging in cords and pressing buttons.

There’s nothing worse than getting to a boardroom to give a high-tech presentation that you’ve spent hours preparing and not being able to get that projector up and running.

One way to avoid this stressful situation is with the portable Sanyo PLC-XW20 Multimedia Projector. In fact, getting this projector up and running is as simple as plugging in the cords, pressing the projector’s power button, selecting an input source (either video or computer) and adjusting the keystone. The entire process takes about five minutes. This reasonably priced projector ($6995) is extremely easy to use and its image quality is near perfect. An auto image adjust button optimises image quality and the remote powered zoom, focus and mouse functions give you the flexibility to move around the boardroom as you speak, focusing more on your presentation than the projector.

The PLC XW20 gives users the option of four different types of images: standard, image 1, image 2, and cinema. The darker cinema mode is useful for video presentations and its picture quality is excellent. Another useful tool is the picture freeze function that allows users to pause a video without fumbling for another remote.

We found the image best when looking at still computer images. Rated at 1100 ANSI lumens, these images are extremely clear and visible even in standard office lighting situations.

The remote, for lack of a better word, is cute. Less than one centimetre thick, it is extremely light and can easily fit into a shirt pocket. The projector on the other hand, weighs in at 2.5kg and has a B5 footprint. While this weight at first seems minimal we got the feeling that it might start to feel heavy if it were being carted all over town with a laptop in tow. The carrying case however, makes carrying the projector as easy as it could possibly be.

The projector comes with all the standard terminals plus a USB connector and a S-video input jack. A replacement bulb retails at $589, which is about average for this standard of projector. Overall, the Sanyo PLC-XW20 is a good no-nonsense projector.
