    I have the newer model but it is quite similar.
    The reason for it having separate card slots is that it is impossible to make a card slot to take both SD card, MS-Duo and a normal Memory Stick card without any part of the card sticking out of the slot. the design is great. it will take MS-Duo without an MS-adapter and if you insert an MS card, it will not stick outside the slot. You can also read a SD cards and a MS card at the same instance because of the separate slots
