Tech Guide: Serious speed with Serial ATA

Step 4: Connect the drives to the controller

Connect the drives to the controller using the appropriate SATA interface cables. If your drives came with their own SATA cables, which was the case with our Western Digital drives, make sure you use them. For each drive, connect one SATA cable to the rear of the drive, then to one of the SATA connectors on the drive controller.

White power leads

Attach one of your system's white power leads to the four-pin connector on the back of each drive.

You'll also need to connect one of the white power leads in your system to the four-pin connector on the back of each drive. If your system doesn't have two free power leads, buy one or more inexpensive Y-connectors at any electronics or computer outlet.

Check your cable connections one last time before closing up your system in preparation for the next step.
