Athlon 64: Internet performance

Internet performance, of course, is primarily dependent on the speed of your connection -- DSL versus dial-up, for example. But under identical connection conditions, processor speed can make a significant difference.

The Athlon 64 FX-51 is the clear winner in the Internet benchmarks, beating the both Pentium 4 processors in every test except XML. In the other tests, the 64-bit processor´s lead is between 19 and 76 per cent. Even in the XML test, the Pentium 4 Extreme Edition with 2MB of Level 3 cache only just beats the Athlon 64 FX-51.

If ClearType is activated, the results of the HTML and XML tests swing in favour of the Intel processors. In the other Internet tests with ClearType, the Athlon 64 FX-51 remains the fastest chip.
