Squeeze more apps onto your PDA Compression utilities for handhelds--just like those for PCs--allow you to store more data and run more software on your device. Here's three of the best.

I love to try out new software for my PDA. I'm a sucker for any little app that can keep me better organized or help pass the time during my commute. But sometimes my love of new software can be a problem, as I start to run out of memory.

Fortunately, there are compression and memory management utilities for PDAs that let you store and run more software on your handheld. These handy tools reduce the size of files and group similar files together, so they load more quickly. When you want to access compressed files, just unzip them, and they're ready to go.

Here are my three favourite file utilities for Palms and Pocket PCs.

LightNzip lets you compress files to RAM or an external memory card to free up space to open other apps. It also offers full support for programs compressed using the popular WinZip utility. (Shareware/Palm)

FlyZip XR claims to double the amount of data you can store on your Palm. While I have no proof of that claim, FlyZip XR did give me a bunch of extra disk room when I used it to compress my photos. (Shareware/Palm)

HandyZIP for Pocket PCs gives you zipping capabilities and lets you quickly view what's in a zipped file by double tapping it. (Shareware/Pocket PC)

If you're looking for a way to run more apps on your PDA, give one of these utilities a try. You'll find they give you a lot of extra space to work with.
