The EM500 has many features in common with its sibling, the E-125.
It is a little smaller in all dimensions and weighs 34 grams less.
Casio has also redone the colour scheme, opting for more of the purple-grey
colour, with silver trim.
The most noticeable thing, performance wise, is that system RAM is reduced to 16MB. There are a few minor changes that have occurred: the Start Button on the right side is no longer there, the Compact Flash card slot, has been replaced by a MultiMedia Card slot and rated battery life is down to seven hours.
The docking station connector has a cover over it that clips in and out, which can make things either simply annoying, or mean it will get lost fairly early in its life.
The microphone has been moved to the top of the unit, which makes it easier to point the mic at people. The headphone socket is on top to make the unit more friendly and more "Walkman style". The simple docking station has both a serial connector and USB cable, which might suit a larger field of users, though it seems they were leaving their options open by not including a serial cable. Overall this machine looks good, but for an extra $200, the E-125 would be a better bet.
