PDA add-ons that really add upOne of the most taken-for-granted tools in a handheld is the calculator. Here's some downloads that turn the basic calculator that came with your PDA into something truly useful.

PDAs can do all sorts of fun and useful things, but what they really excel at are basic chores--such as keeping track of appointments and addresses--that make your day-to-day life easier. They let you take the information you need the most in a gadget you can easily carry around.

One of the PDA's most mundane but useful tools is the calculator. But often the one that comes with your handheld offers only the most basic functions. If you want to do a little more than just add and subtract, I have some downloadable software that will let your PDA's calculator perform currency conversions and other useful tricks.

2xCalc is the simplest of this group, but it's still quite handy for basic calculations, with a nicer interface than the standard Palm calculator. It also works great as a currency converter when you're traveling abroad. (Free/Palm)

Calcul-8 was modeled after a common scientific calculator. If you're looking for something that'll really upgrade your Palm's basic calculator, this is the one to get. (Free/Palm)

Scientific Advantage Calculator for Pocket PC offers Unit Awareness, which lets you work with specific measurements such as feet, inches, and fractions without needing to convert between units. This calculator would be great for anyone who works out in the field or who needs to work consistently within specific measurement systems. (Shareware/Pocket PC)
