Take your work with you--on your PDA Need to bring your work home with you? We've got three apps that allow you to view and edit files on your handheld--and give you a handy way to transport them to your home PC.

Sometimes at the end of the day I still have work to do. Rather than stay late at the office, I prefer to take my work with me and finish up at home. If all I need to bring home is a file or two, I usually send an e-mail with an attachment to my personal account. But if I want to take home multiple documents or a mix of documents, e-mails, and Web pages, and if I want to work during my train ride home, I use my PDA.

I can do this thanks to some handy apps. They allow me to accomplish plenty of work-related tasks, such as reading e-mails, editing Word documents, and viewing Web pages, on my handheld. All I have to do is download or beam the desired files from my work PC to my device before I leave the office.

Though reading long documents and Web pages on my PDA screen isn't as easy as it is on my PC, I've found I'm still able to be productive. Once I'm home, I can upload my files from my PDA to my home desktop, where I can really get some work done.

Here are my two favourite programs for taking my work on the road.

Qvadis Express Reader Pro includes both a desktop and a Palm client. This pair of apps lets you create and edit documents on your desktop and then upload them to your Palm. You'll be able read and edit a number of different file types on your PDA, including Microsoft Word, WordPerfect, e-mail, and downloaded Web pages. (Shareware/Palm)
RepliGo (Pocket PC) lets you convert and compress documents while still retaining their original look and feel on your Pocket PC. It supports Word, PDF, and HTML files, and includes a page-switching tool that helps you navigate long documents. RepliGo also integrates with your e-mail client so you can quickly send documents to your home or work PC. (Shareware/Pocket PC)

If you have the right software, taking your work with you is simple. And since these apps help you get work done on your commute, they'll free up more time at home to relax.
