Motorola v3688

One of the first thing that amazes people most about the v3688 is the petite size. Weighing slightly over 80 grams (with the bundled battery) and measuring 130mm x 46mm x 24.5mm, the v3688 is small, lightweight and fits easily into any pockets or handbags.

Having adopted the "clam shell" design used in the older StarTac phones, the dual band (GSM 900 / 1800) phone is able to provide a better contact between the user and the microphone. This helps to reduce the need to shout into the phone especially when the phone is used in a noisy environment. However, many v3688 owners felt that the reception could have been better.

Although it is a small mobile phone, the v3688 comes with a large Optimax high-contrast screen capable of displaying up to five lines of text and icons. The supplied lithium ion battery allows you to chat on the phone for up to 210 minutes or put it on standby for as long as 100 hours.

Featuring a smart button for direct access to the phonebook, the Motorola phone is equipped with voice dialing capabilities, voice memo recording and support for tri-rate speech codec (EFR / HR / FR). On testing the phone, the voice memo function worked out fine. In fact, the activation button is located such that users need not even open the phone to record voice messages. On the other hand, the voice dialing function failed to recognise the user's voice command most of the time. What made it worse was that it automatically makes a call to another entry in the phonebook when it is unable to decipher the voice command. Other than that, the v3688 includes other standard features like a 100-entry phonebook, vibration alert and 11 ringtones.

Available in Black, Radar Blue, Galaxy Grey and Light Titanium, the v3688 is ideal for ladies as they only take up a little space in their handbags and can also be attached to a lanyard for hanging round the neck. More importantly though is the fact that the buttons are rather small, making it more suitable for the slim fingers of a woman to use the phone. The basic package consists of a handsfree headset, a phone case and a belt clip.
