First Take: Canon MV700i

First Take: Canon MV700i The Canon MV700i packs in just enough features and functionality for the casual traveler to shoot videos on the fly.

Standing at the bottom tier of the new MV series, the MV700i is not without its merits and address consumers who are not particularly picky and would rather prize simple controls over complicated features.

Upside: At 485g, the MV700i is just light enough for the user to heft around in his hands all day. With 18x optical zoom and a manual focus ring that is rarely available in camcorders of this calibre, we would say that it offers a lot more than what we would normally expect to see in a camcorder at this price range.

Downside: Though we shouldn't really complain, the lack of a remote control might just cramp the style of even the causal day shooter and what is more (or less in this case), the MV700i had forfeited quite a couple of software features in order to justify its price tag.

Outlook: At a recommended retail price of AU$899, the MV700i is a real bang for the buck camcorder that goes low on the features but does not skip on the essential basics.
