The LG MF-PD330 MP3 is an attractive silver player. It weighs 82 grams with batteries (the lightest we have encountered so far), as it is manufactured from a smooth lightweight plastic. Its 9 x 7 x 1.5 cms (HWD) dimensions will allow it to slip easily into a pocket.
Unusually, the LCD display is not on body of the player, instead the LG utilises a small remote on the headphones with a small LCD and player controls. However, the LCD is only 1.8 x 1.2 cms (W x H), which only allows space for displaying battery life, track time and number. The remote has a clip which allows it to be attached to your shirt, bag, or wherever is convenient. The remote has Play, Stop, Forward and Reverse buttons, as well as Random play, Bookmark, Equaliser and volume control. The remote does cause some confusion. There are more controls on the remote than the body.
The provided MP3 Explorer software supports Win 95, 98 and 2000. It is easy to use, but unfortunately it does not convert music into the MP3 format, it only transfers files from your PC to the player. The LG only plays MP3 files; it stores WMA or RMX (Real Media), but will not play them. The software displays the available memory as a percentage, and a status bar shows the progress of the track download. File transfer was fairly quick via the provided parallel port cable.
Memory is provided by two 16MB MultiMedia Cards which are upgradeable to 32MB, to give you a combined memory of 64MB. The player runs on two AAA batteries, which give 6-7 hours of play time.
Other features of the player include a bookmark function, which enables you to select a certain point within a track, random play, repeat, and a bass boosting equaliser.
