Red Bull Mobile launches in EB Games stores

Red Bull Mobile launched its new mobile service in Australia today, with Red Bull-branded handsets delivered to EB Games stores around the country.

Acting as a mobile virtual network operator (MVNO), Red Bull will resell an Vodafone mobile service under its own name, and with a unique pricing structure.

Customers choosing one of Red Bull's mobile services choose a period of time when they recharge, rather than a dollar value. The lowest recharge value is AU$10, and it buys seven days of unlimited access to the network, and 750MB of data. A 30-day recharge costs AU$39, and comes with 4GB of data, plus customers will be able to choose a year-long recharge for a once-off AU$365 payment, with 5GB of data each month.

All connections to the network include unlimited national calls, national SMS and MMS, 1300 and 1800 number calls and voicemail.

Its partnership with EB Games is also a first for the games vendor, offering phones for sale and recharge vouchers from all EB Games stores in Australia. EB has previously accepted Apple iPhone and iPod Touch devices as trade-ins for store credit, but has never resold the handsets thereafter.

The first Red Bull-branded smartphones will be the Facebook-centric HTC ChaCha and Salsa handsets, both available to buy outright with a black chassis option exclusive to Red Bull.
