Qld floods send Vodafone offline
update Vodafone has said in on its website that it is looking into a voice and data outage in Queensland after adverse weather conditions and severe flooding knocked out service to some parts of the state.
Vodafone advised users this morning (9:26am AEDT) that major townships all across the flood-stricken state were suffering outages, before posting an unplanned service interruption notice for all of Queensland at 11:44am AEDT.
"From 11/01/2011, Voice and Data services for customers will be unavailable due to flood and storm damage," Vodafone said on the site.
Vodafone told customers via its blog this afternoon that its transmission facility in Coorparoo had been affected by the flood waters.
"Our engineers are on-site and services are being restored. We expect full voice and data services within the next two hours depending on weather conditions," the telco said on its blog.
Irate users took to short social messaging service Twitter to vent their frustration.
"Just been told Vodafone is down in all of Queensland for an undetermined period. Check back in 24 hours, I'm told without apology," said one user.
The outage comes less than 48 hours after it was alleged that access to customer details were sold to unsavoury parties, and less than a month after CEO Nigel Dews apologised for the telco's recent patchy 3G services.
Since flash floods hit the city of Toowoomba and several other townships in the Lockyer Valley Queensland flooding has claimed eight lives, with 72 people still missing and more rain on the way.
