Queensland IT Minister Robert Schwarten has today awarded five ICT infrastructure contracts for the consolidation of its network and datacentre resources.

"Valued at $12 million, these contracts will enable consolidation of the government's [central business district] datacentres, networks and infrastructure services to CITEC, the primary government IT service provider," said Schwarten.

Communications Design Management has been selected to provide consolidated networks and services, EMC Global Holdings Company will provide consolidated storage and data protection, and Hewlett Packard Australia has been contracted for datacentre automation.

Dimension Data Australia was awarded two contracts: patch and vulnerability management, and security information and event management.

Schwarten also today took aim at Liberal National Party Leader John-Paul Langbroek for neglecting information technology policy on his website.

The Queensland IT minister said that the omission was an insult to the state's ICT (information and communications technology) community, accusing the Liberal National Party of being "technophobes, with no interest or understanding in ICT".

Jann Stuckey, the Liberal National Party's ICT spokesperson, spoke to ZDNet Australia saying she had just been at an ICT stakeholders meeting.

"I would say that the website is 'under construction'. We don't have the resources of government," she said.

Stuckey added that it was a "bit rich" for the minister to be pointing fingers on ICT policy, following the Queensland Health payroll debacle.

"The minister is the one who should be embarrassed: he's using his Queensland to host [World Computer Congress 2010], when every other state in Australia is using us as a case of 'what not to do'."

She also highlighted the fact that the Identity, Directory and Email Services (IDES) email system was behind schedule.

"Policy must be based on delivery," she said.

"Unlike the minister, I am actively out there, talking to stakeholders."
