Westpac bank is currently investigating what is causing its website to suffer from delays and outages since 7:30am this morning, with no clear solution in sight.

Westpac's Twitter account alerted customers to the problems earlier today.

"Yes, there is intermittent problems with internet banking, it's being worked on, try again in a little while," the tweet read, but Westpac could not provide a time as to when customers would be able to get back onto the site.

"[Westpac is] still investigating the cause of the problem," Westpac told ZDNet Australia when contacted directly. "We've got support teams working on it as quickly as possible, [but] we don't have a timeline [for when it will be resolved] at this stage."

It has been a trying time for the banking industry. Commonwealth Bank of Australia's ATMs and EFTPOS systems went down yesterday following an upgrade of its security.
