NSW selects chair for IT advisory panel

Greg Pearce, New South Wales' Minister for Finance and Services, today announced that John Baird, Deutsche Bank's head of information enterprise services, has scooped up a role heading up the state government's ICT industry advisory panel.

John Baird was announced as the new head of the panel this morning, which will see him working to ensure that the voice of the NSW ICT industry is heard by government when it plans and executes its new IT strategy.

Pearce said that Baird was selected out of a pile of 200 applications to the ICT industry advisory panel, adding that Baird's previous experience in project management made him a stand-out candidate.

Baird has previously worked as an experimental computer scientist at the CSIRO, and has held senior IT positions across BT Global Services, Credit Suisse and Toshiba. He is currently the head of information enterprise services for Deutsche Bank.

"John's experience in implementing ICT solutions for large businesses, together with his technical background, will provide the industry expertise needed to chair the Industry Advisory Panel and advise the NSW ICT Board," Pearce said in a statement today, adding that he is looking forward to working with the industry journeyman.

"As chair of the Industry Advisory Panel, John will be tasked with ensuring that prevailing and emerging technologies are effectively aligned with agency and whole-of-government objectives."

Pearce revealed details of government and industry panels to spearhead the state government's ICT vision in July.
