The ACCC alleges that Internet Registrations Australia (IRA) made "false or misleading representations" when it indicated to some domain name holders that it had a pre-existing relationship or prior dealing with them, has the authority to register or renew a consumers domain name, or could register .com.au domain names for periods of four, six, eight or ten years.
The ACCC claims IRA have been engaging in deceptive conduct since January 2001. The ACCC wants courts to issue permanent injunctions preventing IRA from repeating the offence, as well as corrective advertising, costs, and an order for IRA to undertake a Trade Practices Compliance Program.
