Unisys waits on ECM platform for RailCorp

Unisys has been chosen to develop and implement an enterprise content management (ECM) platform for RailCorp, New South Wales' public rail operation, as part of an upgrade to its ICT systems.

The outsourcing giant announced today that RailCorp had offered it a deal to complete the ECM platform in two phases, the first to develop an ECM methodology and the second to implement the system.

According to RailCorp, the ECM platform — once fully implemented — will provide all employees with a single Web portal to access all of the organisation's electronic content.

RailCorp CIO Vicki Coleman said the first phase of the project was designed to "set the standards and definitions that will apply across the entire organisation in an 'enterprise methodology' so that subsequent ECM projects will support the ongoing requirements of RailCorp".

"Ultimately we want RailCorp's customers and third parties to be able to access content and services ... using the same underlying technology platforms," she said in a statement.

Unisys' role in the implementation will be to deploy a number of off-the-shelf content management programs such as EMC's Documentum and FAST, ahead of a full roll-out of the platform upon completion of the trial.

No figure was disclosed for the deal.

The state rail operator signed an AU$1.9 million deal with EMC in April last year for the provision of ECM software over two years, after it outsourced its key IT functions to Fujitsu in late 2006.
