The real cost of a Vista upgrade

in brief Microsoft Australia has revealed the business edition of its next operating system, Windows Vista, will cost AU$565.

The software giant also issued local upgrade prices following the release of packaged pricing early last month.

Retail upgrade pricing (RRP) for the several Vista editions will be:

  • Home Basic Upgrade: AU$199
  • Home Premium Upgrade Academic: AU$179
  • Ultimate Upgrade: AU$495
  • Business Upgrade: AU$379

Vista ultimate edition includes both business and home features of the operating system.

    Tell them they're dreaming! Who on earth would pay that much to upgrade to Vista? $379 for a business professional upgrade???

    It's not as if it will improve my typing speed (very respectable already, thank you) and I've had long filenames since Win 95.

    it's worth mentioning that you'll likely need to roughly double your installed memory to achieve performance parity with XP... I'd call that a cost... innit?
