Indian outsourcer Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has named 14-year-company veteran R Ravishankar as country manager for Australia and New Zealand.
Most recently country manager of TCS Singapore, Ravishankar will begin his tenure in a few weeks, according to a statement released today. Outgoing country manager Rick Marmur has taken a job in the environmental sector.
The announcement follows TCS reporting its global financial results for the year ended March 31, 2007, recording a net profit of US$270 million, up nine percent on the previous quarter. The company gained 43 new customers and closed two US$50 million deals during that time.
A major highlight for the company's Australian operations last year was its AU$108 million deal with Qantas.
TCS is supporting all key Qantas IT applications in airport operations and commercial systems, using labour in Australia and India. The contract is the largest to date for any Indian IT services provider in Australia.
Also, Tata has reportedly secured an outsourcing arrangement with Australian smartcard developer ERG. A source close to ERG told ZDNet Australia yesterday that the smartcard firm recently told employees software development would be outsourced to India.
