Tasty Cupcake update for Optus

Optus plans to deliver the Cupcake update for Android over the air to customers owning an HTC Dream, after a period of internal testing.

An Optus spokesperson told CNET Australia that Optus will be receiving the update in the "coming weeks" and will then perform tests to ensure optimal performance for customers who own an HTC Dream on the Optus network.

"HTC Dream owners on the Optus network will automatically receive the upgrade over the air once testing is completed," the spokesperson said.

Cupcake is the codename given to version 1.5 of the Android operating platform. Google has previously outlined some of the enhancements users can expect in the update including a video recording and improvements to the Gmail client on the phone.

The Boy Genius Report has published speculation that T-Mobile in the US will push the update over the air to its customers starting on the 11th of May.

Frustrated with Optus support Anonymous -- 25/05/09

I called them around the same time as this article was published to find out their plans for the update and was pushed from person to person and put on hold for 40 minutes. Finally I was told they have no intention to ever up date the firmware and was told quite rudely something along the lines of - "you paid for the phone as it is, we never promised any updates".

Unhappy with Android support in Australia Anonymous -- 26/05/09

I'm strongly thinking to switch over to the Iphone until the Android phones in Australia become more mainstream. At the moment they offer nothing or us. We can;t develop for the phone... we can;t purchase ozzie apps, we cannot even purchase global apps..

Optus are the biggest pile of turds in the World Anonymous -- 31/05/09

I have never dealt with such a bunch of losers in my life. They have totally screwed up in every area of customer service - my htc dream has been back in to the shop since I bought it in Feb - just got it back still with a battery life expiring in under 8 hours and no update when the rest of the world has their - should be renamed HTC Nightmare - shame as it could and will be a good phone. OPTUS ARE &@#^&#^&(#^&(#!^. Stay away from this realy ^#%^&#%* company! Oh, and ALLPHONES are just as bad - &%^%@^%^#.....

My HTC Dream works perfectly with very long hours, about 1 day when I don't do anything with it: no talking, no SMS, no Internet, no Gaming, no Music. Perfectly. Hahahaah.
    Optus, such an **s*ole
