Sydney Water has gone to market for a provider to carry out program and project delivery services for its information management and business intelligence programs.

The two projects are part of the state organisation's pathfinder program, which aims to define and establish new enterprise-wide IT capabilities. The projects don't follow a proven path, so generally involve developing new intellectual property, according to the organisation.

There are two pathfinder programs currently. The first is the Sydney Water Information Management (SWIM) which involves electronic document management, collaboration, work flow automation, publishing as well as enterprise search. SWIM is based on Oracle's unified content management system and an enterprise search technology which is being bought.

The second program is business intelligence that aims to bring all of Sydney Water's data into a common business intelligence data warehouse and form new business processes. Sydney Water signed on Business Objects to help with business intelligence in 2006.

The successful provider is expected to deliver on the programs' milestones on behalf of Sydney Water over the life of the three-year contract. There is the possibility of two one-year extensions.

Recently, Sydney Water also put out a call for a contractor to move it from its current Novell GroupWise email platform to Microsoft Exchange.
