NT Govt appoints new CIO

The Northern Territory Government has appointed Victor De Silva as CIO for its shared services branch, the Department of Corporate and Information Services.

Reporting to Les Hodgson, executive director of ICT at the NT Department of Business and Employment, De Silva will be responsible for coordinating whole-of-government IT initiatives for the territory.

De Silva is highly-experienced as an IT director in the Northern Territory Government, with experience in agencies as diverse as primary industries, planning and infrastructure and business development.

"The CIO's role is to provide strategic direction around such aspects as IT architecture and security," Hodgson said.

Last month, the Northern Territory Government opened up to informal discussions with the IT industry as to how best to approach the provision of ICT services to government agencies and departments once its major outsourcing contracts expire in 2010.
