NEHTA appoints new chair

Peak e-health group the National E-Health Transition Authority (NEHTA) has appointed a new chair just months after having to find an interim CEO following the resignation of former head Ian Reinecke.

The new chair David Gonski will be replacing SA Health CEO Dr Tony Sherbon, who had been a director since NEHTA was first created in 2005, and chair since last year.

Gonski has experience on the boards of major companies including Westfield and Singapore airlines. He is currently the chair of the Coca Cola Amatil group.

A Boston Consulting review of the Authority recommended that it add a number of independent directors to its board to counter conflicts of interest. As Gonski will be an independent director, this appointment will respond to the recommendation.

According to the authority, Gonski considers NEHTA's goal to unify patient records across the nation to be "one of the most critical healthcare initiatives to be undertaken".

Gonski will be working with interim CEO Andrew Howard, who has been seconded having previously held the role of CIO for Victoria's Human Services Department.
