Microsoft to offer online aid for Windows XP

Microsoft will use its Passport technology to store user information so that it can help diagnose problems with Windows XP

Microsoft Windows XP users in the UK will be able to access live online support following the launch of the operating system later this month.

Last week Microsoft said that XP users in the UK, US and Korea would be able to contact Microsoft Support Professional representatives during normal business hours as part of the Microsoft Online Assisted Support Workflow package.

Using its Passport technology, Microsoft will store user information in order to help diagnosis. When an XP user contacts the Microsoft Product Support Services help team through a desktop machine, the advisors will be able to access information about system configuration and setup. Microsoft was quick to point out that this sensitive information would be stored in a secure environment and would only be accessed to assist in the resolution of customers' problems.

Microsoft will use peer-to-peer technology to let XP users connect to each other.

Oh, is that what they are trying to make us believe.

Well it does sound a lot better than saying we collect data on our customers to create demographic and psychographic profiles which are used for marketing purposes.
With anyone willing to pay having access to the info.

    Wake up folks!
