Microsoft today said the latest version of its Windows Small Business Server software had been finalised and was ready for its distribution partners.
Windows SBS 2008 was slated to be available from 12 November this year, according to a blog post by Dean Paron, group program manager of Windows SBS.
"We feel very confident that this new release builds on the success of SBS 2003 R2 and makes the power of enterprise IT accessible and affordable for small business," Paron wrote today.
Paron said the release would include a number of new features for small to medium enterprises, including tools to manage domain names and data folders, more flexible licensing, improved manageability, a better base platform for applications such as SQL Server 2008, better security and data protection, including improved backup and integration with the latest Windows Mobile and SharePoint technologies.
Small Business Server is the little brother of Microsoft's current flagship server platform, Windows Server 2008, which was officially released in February this year.
