After more than seven years of planning, the Department of Education Victoria has finally nominated strategic outsourcer LogicaCMG to replace its ageing RecFind document retrieval system, with Open Text's Livelink ECM eDOCS records management suite.
The three-year project will see LogicaCMG conduct a phased rollout of the document management software to 1800 users throughout the state. The implementation will also bring the department into compliance with record storage and retrieval requirements as set out in the Victorian Electronic Records Strategy (VERS) released in July 2002.
Selected in part for its compatibility with the Microsoft Office suite, the rollout is expected to reduce duplication, improve security, work flow and response times through the implementation of version control and access privileges.
"The close integration with Microsoft is really good from a change management and training perspective, as it makes it easier for people who are used to the Office environment to use the system," said Hugh Bickenstaff, managing director of business solutions for LogicaCMG.
The contract is the latest in a string of state government wins for LogicaCMG, including its win as a whole-of-government software supplier for elelctronic document and records management system to the Queensland Government. The company also recently landed an enterprise-wide electronic document and records management implementation for Melbourne's Metropolitan Fire and Emergency Services Board.
"Government work represents about 25 percent of our overall business at the moment and it is certainly a growing market for us, especially in the areas of document management and security," Bickenstaff said. "The contract with Victorian Department of Education took a long time to work out, but now people from other state government departments will be able to purchase from us off the same contract, so more work should flow from the deal."
