EMC appoints new Australia MD

EMC has appointed a new managing director for Australia and New Zealand following Steve Redman's promotion to a senior, Asia-Pacific role.

David Webster, previously Curam Software Asia-Pacific vice president, will replace Redman from September 12.

Webster was at Curam for about six months. Prior to this he was vice president and managing director for Peoplesoft Australia and New Zealand [which was acquired by Oracle].

The new face comes as EMC faces increased competition from traditional rival Veritas, bolstered by its merger with security giant Symantec -- which recently outlined plans to expand its offerings, particularly in the areas of information security and e-mail archiving.

An EMC spokesperson said Redman had been appointed vice president for its software business overseeing Asia-Pacific and Japan.
