Two weeks before the official launch and customers in Australia and New Zealand have already signed up for Duet, Microsoft and SAP's jointly developed software.
Duet, formerly known as Project Mendocino, will enable customers to interact with mySAP ERP through Microsoft Office. The software will be able to integrate other SAP applications such as its CRM (customer relationship management) solution in future.
Mark Frear, SAP Australia director for NetWeaver, said two-thirds of customers are Microsoft Office users.
Out of 100 global customers that trialled Duet, two enterprise customers from New Zealand and one from Australia have already signed-up, he said during a visit to ZDNet Australia's Sydney office recently. However, SAP declined to reveal their identities.
One of the benefits of Duet is that previously, customers would have to constantly check the mySAP ERP portal for updates but with Duet, they would be alerted via e-mail (on Outlook).
Pricing for Duet starts at US$125 per seat. It will work with Office 2007 applications when Microsoft's latest suite launches, Frear said.
