Wells will leave his role in December this year, after three years at the company. His last position was heading up People Soft in North Asia.

Wells said he had enjoyed his time at Business Objects, but pointed to changes to the managing director position since Business Objects became a part of SAP.

"As the businesses of SAP and Business Objects work more closely together, the role of managing director has changed significantly," he said in a statement. "Now is the right time for me to look for other opportunities outside SAP."

A spokesperson for SAP could not say where he intended to go or whether the company had already started to search for his replacement.
