BlackBerry app store skips Australia

in brief BlackBerry maker Research in Motion has confirmed that its BlackBerry application store, App World, will not be available in Australia just yet.

"BlackBerry App World is immediately available to BlackBerry smartphone users in the United States, United Kingdom and Canada, with more country launches to follow," a spokesperson for the handset maker said this morning via email.

The RIM effort comes on the heels of the success of Apple's own application store, and launches by other mobile operating system vendors such as Google with its Android platform.

Blackberry Apps for Australia Anonymous -- 20/04/09

I think it's rather ridiculous that Australia once again have been left out of the running for apps. I lived in the UK for 20 years, so I'm not blind to the fact that Australia is deemed 'backwards' in technology - but how hard is it exactly for these companies to launch worldwide... not very.

    Unbelievable!! Anonymous -- 08/06/09

It should be compulsory for all phone retailers to inform you whether your phone (specially a smart phone) will be used to its full capacity (i.e have applications to download)... I am extremely disappointed, I have always wanted a blackberry and now that I have finally bought one, I am finding that there aren’t enough applications to download and most are expensive or cannot be used in Australia unlike the iphone. Really I would've been better buying a regular phone if my main intention was just to make calls or maybe should've bought an iphone... Disappointed...
