BMC signs on Vic's CenITex

BMC Software has been awarded a contract with Victoria's shared services agency CenITex to supply, implement and support IT service management applications and workflow automation tools.

BMC will be CenITex's partner in bringing service management to the whole of the Victorian Government via its Efficient Technology Services program.

The service management upgrade was expected to reduce costs for delivering services to client agencies, enable more automation, better measure, manage and report services as well as providing self-service portals.

As of 30 June this year, CenITex was receiving $65 million in revenues per year, was servicing 13,765 desktops and had 336 staff, 176 of which were contractors.

CenITex is currently providing services to the Victorian Departments of Transport, Planning and Community Development, Premier and Cabinet, Primary Industries, Sustainability and Environment as well as Treasury and Finance. By 2012, it hopes to also supply services to the Departments of Innovation, Industry and Regional Development, Human Services, Justice, Education and Early Childhood Development as well as to VicRoads, the State Revenue Office, the Environmental Protection Authority and Victoria Police.

The Efficient Technology Services program within CenITex has been put into place to create the common ICT services used to supply agency needs. The 2009-2010 Victorian budget saw $95.16 million allocated to fund the program.

There are very very good technologies yet to be selected by Cenitex that beat BMC hands down. C'mon Cenitex, support local industry.

Surely there are Cenitex-bound departments with a ITIL service management capability already in place. Why start from scratch when they can re-use and expand existing people, processes and tech? This kind of scorched earth IT policy will cost a fortune, which in turn will filter through to us sucker tax payers.
