Australian IT services firm Dialog has had to whittle down its staff numbers as the economy's woes continue to bite.

Dialog director Bob Tisdall told ZDNet.com.au today that the company had been letting employees go across the company as a response to the general tightening of the economy. "We're making sure we're in good condition for next year," he said.

Tisdall would not say how many consultants Dialog had to jettison from its 700-strong workforce.

Dialog handles jobs such as outsourcing and technology management, systems integration and application development, implementation and training and support. The company's clients have included Centrelink, Medicare Australia, Telstra, Suncorp Metway, Macquarie bank, BHP Billiton, Westfield, AMP, as well as the NSW, Northern Territory, Victorian, Western Australian and Queensland governments.
