ASG picks up more Qantas work

ASG Group revealed today that it had signed a five-year $13 million contract with Qantas to provide application management services.

ASG will be assisted by IT consulting company Capiotech with the contract, which will see the pair support the airline's financial reporting and planning applications. The project will be managed out of Sydney.

The contract added to another deal that ASG had signed in 2006 to provide IT systems integration and management services for the airline's eQ Finance project.

"After working with Qantas for the past 30 months we're happy to be selected to work with this customer again," ASG chief officer sales and strategic operations Murray Rosa said in a statement.

He believed that receiving additional work from existing customers was the key advantage in the current economic downturn. "It is our strong, long-term relationships with blue chip clients such as Qantas that will enable us to maintain a steady flow of new work through the ongoing economic instability," he said.

This contract followed on the heels of another Qantas contract signed with Fujitsu to support the company's desktop, email, storage and collaboration systems. Telstra had previously held the contract.

The airline said earlier this month that it was also looking at outsourcing the delivery of IT projects to IBM in an attempt to cut costs. David Hall, executive manager of corporate services and technology, said at the time that Qantas' IT spend was going to be "significantly reduced" in future.

Qantas has seen a number of cuts since the global financial crisis set in, including its former CIO Jamila Gordon, who was made redundant in March this year.
