Federal e-government strategy gets launch date By Iain Ferguson, ZDNet Australia March 06, 2006 URL: http://www.zdnet.com.au/news/software/soa/Federal-e-government-strategy-gets-launch-date/0,130061733,139241751,00.htm
The new Special Minister of State, Gary Nairn, is expected to unveil a ground-breaking federal e-government agenda at the end of this month after securing Cabinet approval for the plan in early February. Nairn -- who was promoted to the role in late January as part of a ministerial reshuffle by Prime Minister John Howard -- is launching a plan prepared largely by his predecessor in the post, Senator Eric Abetz. It is understood the plan is expected to be released at a function at Parliament House in Canberra on 30 March. Cabinet is believed to have approved the document on 6 February, about a week after Nairn's elevation to his new post. The strategy -- devised with a five-year horizon in mind -- is expected to encompass both new and existing initiatives to improve government service delivery to citizens and ways of making government operations more efficient.
