Sharman Networks chief executive officer Nikki Hemming has been granted more time to prepare for her long-awaited cross-examination by record industry lawyers in the long-running Kazaa legal wrangle.

Hemming, who has declined to appear before the court throughout the case, was initially scheduled to be cross-examined in the Federal Court in Sydney today.

However, Justice Michael Moore said late last month the cross-examination could not proceed in the midst of current contempt of court hearings, as Hemming could suffer prejudice. The criminal proceedings will decide whether Hemming and Altnet's Kevin Bermeister complied with a court order to filter 3,000 keywords from Kazaa by 5 December.

Justice Moore moved the cross-examination of Hemming and her assets to 2 March, and said this would allow Sharman's lawyers time to prepare for the cross-examination.
