ZDNet.com.au hosted the third annual Emerging Technology Innovation Awards tonight in conjunction with CeBIT 2009. At a ceremony held on the show floor, the winner and two runners up were announced, with a product called gStepOne taking top honours (video submission here).
gStepOne is free online software designed to help users organise business processes by creating customised interactive wizards. Specified organisational procedures can also be linked to relevant knowledge in websites, documents, videos, pictures and maps, and Google Apps to provide background and reference materials.
Judges (Ross Dawson, Brad Howarth, Mick Liubinskas, Iggy Pintado and Brian Haverty) found gStepOne to be a refreshingly simple yet powerful tool for creating task wizards, wizards that take advantage of many powerful Google apps and that can be used from any browser.
Runner-up winners in the 2009 awards were Zaptz Ezyapp, for installing, maintaining, deploying and streaming applications simultaneously to multiple sites across the globe, and Soprano 1300/1800 Inbound, a system that enables businesses and governments "to capture enquiries, questions and feedback via SMS and provide an appropriate response either using SMS or with a return call ... to eliminate consumers waiting in an inbound call queue".
This year, over 50 products and services entered the awards, with many entries submitting one-minute videos on their entry. Those videos can be found here.
