With the re-launch of the Excite Australia site less than a week away, Yahoo Australia has announced the local launch of its My Yahoo! service.

With the re-entry of Excite into the Australian market likely to provide Yahoo! with a major local competitor, the announcement iswell timed to compete with Excite Australia's planned personalisation features. (See story, 'Excite Australia prepares to re-launch'.

My Yahoo! is a customisable Web based service that lets users log-in to a personal home page containing information from services that they feel are appropriate to them.

My Yahoo! userscan customise such services as Bookmarks, News, Weather and Financial information to provide them with the information that they find relevant. The My Yahoo! home pages can also be used to connect through to other Yahoo! services such as calendering, auctions, free email and 'paging'.

It's a service that Yahoo! Australia's General Manager, Tony Faure believes will drive even more browsers to the local site.

"As the Internet becomes increasingly a part of people's day to day lives, users want easy access to the information they're most interested in," Faure noted. "My Yahoo! is a simple and effective way to bring relevant content directly to the individual."

Faure believes that the service will become a central part of Yahoo!'s services in this region.

"The company that wins on the web is the company that listens to and provides users with what they want, My Yahoo! Australia & NZ, with its local and global content, is a cornerstone feature that will help us continue to lead the local market."
