Westpac spokesperson Julia Quinn said its Internet banking service was now back up, although it was currently running at 75 percent capacity.
"Obviously when we're bringing it back up we control the capacity for awhile," she said. "It's a progressive thing over 24 hours -- we're intending to have full capacity by the end of the day."
The service experienced problems midday Tuesday, with Westpac having to take it offline to locate the problem and then upgrade some code on its servers.
The online banking service was back online early yesterday, and Quinn said it had been gradually bringing it back up to capacity since then.
"It was effectively down for two days so obviously there's been some pent up demand."
A message on the site said delays will continue throughout Friday.

In the days of immediate sevice via InterNet and all the advanced technologies it takes to get it there; it is hard to complain about a glitch or even a 2 day outage as well!
Yes, fine I have no problems living with that, but being a Wespac customer and of course a Westpac Internet customer: I am very disappointed to have to find out any information regarding server problems via ZDNet.
A big thnakyou must go to ZDNet for keeping us informed, but why didnt Westpac address their customers personally, or simpler still place something on their Intenet Banking page??
Disappointed though glad to be able to pay bills and manage my money again :-)
