Voxson says its dual band GSM mobile phone has passed all tests and it has now received approval to sell its phone on the GSM network.

"The approval marks a significant milestone for the company and is the culmination of several years of research and development by engineers at Voxson's Brisbane research laboratory," Chairman Howard Stack said.

The GSM mobile phone will work on both GSM 900 and DCS 1800 networks, which are the two frequencies used in most countries around the world, except the United States which uses GSM 1900.

Voxson specialises in digital wireless technologies. GSM mobile handsets are the initial commercial application of its wireless solutions.

The testing was carried out at TeleDanmark, one of only a handful of approved testing stations around the world.

The next milestone for the company, according to Stack, is the production of the handset in commercial quantities with the first low-volume production expected by the end of the first quarter of 2001.

The company has had to wait 12 months longer than expected for its GSM phone to receive full approval.
