The Don hits top average online

There's been heavy online bidding for cricket memorabilia following the death of Australian cricket legend, Sir Donald Bradman.

Yahoo Australia & NZ auction site SOLD.com.au is hosting a charity auction, with some bids already hitting a six since first innings yesterday.

The charity auction item - a signed cricket bat and ball donated by Bradman - reached AU$1500 in bids so far today, with still 12 days of the auction to go.

According to SOLD.com.au, the auction went live yesterday with an opening bid of $100, and within an hour had reached AU$500.

"Bradman collectables have always been a big area, even before the Don's passing," said the spokesperson.

"He has this incredible appeal to all ages, sexes, cricket fans, general sports fans and regular Australians - everyone seems to have a connection with him, not just collectors."

A further 120 auctions of Bradman memorabilia are being hosted by individuals on the site.

Proceeds from the sale of the cricket bat and ball will go to the Variety Club, a children's charity organisation, which Bradman supported.
