Telstra has been given the go ahead by Australian Consumer and Competition Commission (ACCC) to release its pricing strategy for high-speed Internet access lines using Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line (ADSL).

The broadband pricing announcements have been a part of a drawn out debate between the telco and competition watchdog, which according to Telstra, seemed to be delaying the ruling on unconditional local loop lines (ULL) for Telstra and its competitors.

The announcement will give consumers higher-speed Internet access over ordinary phone lines, using ADSL. This allows customers to use the Internet while still being able to receive telephone calls. The service will also offer customers access to content from any Internet Service Provider.

According to Telstra, the new pricing does not apply a per-hour Internet usage fee, instead the carrier offers monthly flat rate plans, with uniform pricing nationwide.

Existing Telstra residential customers can expect to pay a flat fee of AU$78 per month, while business customers get a AU$5 reduction, paying AU$73 a month.

Telstra ADSL customers who are preselected to a different carrier can expect to pay AU$94.50 each month for residential access and AU$89.50 per month for business accounts.
