Telstra ADSL on the blink, again

Telstra ADSL broadband Internet service fell flat again this weekend, with customers in Victoria out of pocket--and out of the loop once more.

According to Broadband Community Forum www.whirlpool.net.au, the ADSL network failure occurred on Saturday afternoon and continued into Sunday, affecting Victorian users only.

Technicians seemed to have fixed the problem yesterday morning, however, late in the afternoon the service was reported to have come to a standstill again.

Recently, Telstra ADSL customers won a battle over remuneration for services out of action in the month of July, when they experienced continued outages. After much deliberation, the telco agreed to refund customers 100 percent of monthly fees for July. In anticipation of timed outages, it also agreed to refund 50 percent of customers fees for August and September.

Telstra announced scheduled maintenance would occur to improve the broadband network, which included a period of outages planned over 16 days in August.

The breakdown to the service at the weekend was not part of the planned outages.

According to Whirlpool's Dan Warne, customers are claiming that the refunds are "not enough" considering the frequency of ADSL system failures.

Telstra has been contacted for comment.

WAS the weekend outages a DOS? ...Keith Styles -- 06/08/01

WAS the weekend outages a DOS?????

As usual, tech support had misleading messages on the 1800 help line. At 8pm on Saturday it was indicating the outage had just started, rather than the true status which was by then 5 hours old. After 14 hours & still no sign of service restoration, one has to wonder if they know what they are doing!!
I wonder if we will receive a further credit for this lot????
