St George Net banking fraught with outages

St George customers have had to contend with continual blackouts on its Internet banking Web site, with one customer claiming the service has been down more often than it has been up and running over the last six months.

-Over the last six months I have found it doesn't work more often than it is working," the customer said.

St George confirmed that there have been intermittent outages over the last six months, which it claims have been caused by capacity enhancements and improvements to the Web site.

-It has been going on over the last six months, it's all about improving the site, a spokesperson for the bank told ZDNet.

-Sometimes we have to take the system down to make changes and improvements."

A service failure occurred this morning, leaving customers unable to check balances or transact online for up to two hours.

The Web site posted a message saying, -you are currently unable to access Internet Banking. Please try again later. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause."

St George bank has over 250,000 customers linked to its Internet banking service.
