After clinching a $5.5 million games development deal for Sony's new PlayStation2 platform, Adelaide gaming company will increase the size of its staff from 20 to 35 over the next 2 months.

According to Ratbag, the two game contract includes a highly sophisticated action/adventure title costing $3.7 million, the largest video game production ever undertaken in Australia.

Ratbag has assumed high ranking in the games market, following the release of its inaugural PC game, Powerslide. The company's second game, Dirt Track Racing sold out within two days of being released in the US, with the title now due out in Australia next year.

Ratbag co-founder and director, Greg Siegele said the Sony deal had helped place the Adelaide company at the forefront of the games development industry internationally.

The new titile marks a departure from the motor racing genre for Ratbag, and will involve collaboration with the movie industry in Adelaide and Sydney to incorporate special cinematic effects.
