Long-standing Internet player Sofcom is set to sweep up the assets of defunct online advertiser Real Media Australia.

Sofcom has agreed to purchase all of the company's assets, including the Real Media Australia name, URLs and Web sites as well as software licenses and intellectual property, and will have the option to employ Real Media Australia employees and to take over current contracts.

"Sofcom will utilise its own staff to complete campaigns for those clients and service those clients in the future," a company statement said.

Established in 1981, Sofcom provides a range of products and services including advertising representation for over 90 Australian sites as well as consulting, Web design, software development, maintenance and hosting.

"The acquisition of the Real Media Australia assets and sites will make Sofcom one of the largest online advertising representation businesses in Australia," the company said.

Sofcom hasn't assumed any of Real Media Australia's liabilities or lease commitments and said it paid just a "nominal amount" for the assets.
