The Australian Computer Society has launched a Web site to give aspiring IT students a boost - the site will provide assistance for students studying IT and help prepare them for the industry.

"Essentially, our goal was to create a Web site that met the needs and interests of Australian IT students," NSW Minister for Information Technology and Western Sydney, Kim Yeadon said.

Built by computer science students at the University of Western Sydney, the Web site is a tool for students to use to provide information about IT courses and projects and connect them to the IT industry.

A mentoring system on the Web site links students to IT professionals, enabling them to post questions on the Web site to be answered by those already in the workforce.

"The Society hoped the new site would provide a useful tool for its student members and encourage wider communication between aspiring professionals and those already in the workforce," ACS President, John Ridge said.

The Web site www.acs.org.au/student/ also allows students to post final year projects so they can be accessed by their peers.
