Safe mobiles a hot issue at Internet World

Mobility and security will be the main issues at the Internet World UK 2001 show, which takes place this week at London's Earl's Court exhibition centre.

Many vendors will use the event as a launch pad for new products and solutions. ITouch, a wireless services specialist, will launch its Business Mobility product suite. The suite provides mobile workers with secure links to corporate data from PDAs, mobile phones or office PCs.

David Tinkler, UK manager for business mobility at iTouch, said wireless security is an important issue for companies and users, but added that wireless data technology is not yet in mainstream business use.

"There is still some scepticism over the e-business revolution and the early releases of WAP, but there are workable, cost-effective applications out there," he said.

Another firm announcing its arrival in the wireless world is KPNQwest. The data services company will publicise its deal with Paybox, a mobile payment solutions provider, to support secure mobile transactions. Paybox will use the KPNQwest IP infrastructure to link to mobile operators across Europe and let customers transfer money securely between mobile devices and shops.

Authentication tools company Keyware will demonstrate its new sign-on facility for Windows, which uses layered biometrics to verify face, fingerprints and voice before allowing access to systems.
