Rydges get into broadband groove

Business travellers signing in to swanky Rydges hotels will be able to hook onto high-speed Internet from the comfort of a foyer armchair or the convenience of a conference room, following an agreement between the high-class hotel group and broadband wireless service provider SkyNetGlobal.

Any traveller with the need for Internet or office LAN connection will be able to access the SkyNetGlobal service by registering online and completing a one-off download.

Users can hire a wireless modem card from the hotel, which they insert into the laptop. A SkyNetGlobal icon will appear on their desktop and with one click they can connect to their corporate office from11 Rydges hotels, with no plugs, no dialling and no long-distance call charges.

Users can pay by the minute or select a monthly plan.

"An essential service for the business person working away from the office is an easy to use, portable, reliable high-speed data connection to their company's computer system, whether it be to download the latest video profile or to respond to emails," SkyNetGlobal chief executive officer, Jonathan Soon, said.

"Rydges and SkyNetGlobal are perfect partners in the middle to upper segments of the travelling corporate market, and we are extremely pleased to be providing our service to Rydges guests."

SkyNetGlobal's network locations now exceed 315 worldwide. Including the Rydges locations -- three of which are located in Sydney, two in Melbourne and one each in, Canberra, Brisbane, Perth and Auckland -- users can wirelessly connect as they await take-off in airline lounges and relax in other hotels throughout Australia, New Zealand and the United States. SkyNetGlobal's broadband network has also extended its reach into conference centres and cafes in the US.

"As corporate travellers rely more and more on the Internet for support and communication while away from the office, it is important that Rydges offers SkyNetGlobal's fast, inexpensive, easy to use and accessible connectivity service in our key corporate locations," Rydges Hotels managing director, David Seargeant, said.

The Rydges Kensington Plaza, London and Rydges Plaza, Dubai are also participating in the agreement with SkyNetGlobal.
